Mobile notifications increase learner engagement

Mobile learning has taken off. Mobile notifications inform people on their phone or tablet when learning tasks have been assigned. Mobile notifications have proven to be a powerful tool to increase learner engagement. Today's learner never lose sight of their mobile phones or tablets, and the mobile notifications help to learn whenever and wherever they can. This makes learning more effective.

Drillster's predictive analaytics ensures that learners are also informed just before important knowledge tends to decline. A powerful tool for permanent education. This allows the learner to brush up on the knowledge in time.

Notifications can be sent via two channels: e-mail and/or mobile. Premium account and license users can determine in the Drillster back-office via which channels they would like to notify the participants of their training programs. Notifications can be triggered by various events:

  • The participant has been subscribed or unsubscribed from a training program.
  • A learning objective has been set for the participant(s).
  • A test has been assigned to the user.
  • The results of the learner are not on track: Drillster breaks up the learning material in manageable pieces and motivates users to study regularly in order to meet the objectives in time and with good results. Reminders are sent if the proficiency of the participant is not on track to successfully complete the learning objective.
  • The proficiency on specific themes have decreased and the learner needs to brush up on his or her knowledge in order to meet the learning objective again.

Drillster distinguishes one-off and permanent learning objectives. For one-off objectives, learners have to develop a given proficiency prior to a set review date. If the proficiency is below the expected level, reminders are sent on a weekly basis. For one-off objectives there is no need for the learner to maintain proficiency after the review date.

Permanent objectives are used to manage permanent education and are basically an extension of one-off objectives. The reminders are sent in exactly the same way as for one-off objectives. In addition, permanent objectives are evaluated continuously after the review date. Every time the user’s proficiency curve intersects (or more accurately: “touches”) the required minimum proficiency line, a notification is sent.

Both e-mail and mobile notifications have proven a powerful mechanism to engage users and to help them to meet and exceed learning objectives. This again has a very positive effect on the results are realized.
